South America | Peru | Southern Peru | Puno – Peru is not for whimps
Arrived at Puno last night after dark, which by the way looked much better then than it does this morning. Off to Sillustani in the afternoon and tommorrow morning will do the islands and spend the night on Amantani with a local host family..
more later, much more…..
The colectivo taking us to Sillustani broke down trying to get around a protest road block and then we see the driver running like hell for a bus across the fields leaving us with the annoyed locals who put up the road block. The only thing approaching faster than dark was an ominous thunder cloud. Things were looking a little ugly, but finally a local bus showed up and took the farmers and about 1/2 our group, standing room only. I elected to stay with our guide, who did not run off fortunately, and a couple British ladies in their sixtys. After about an hour, our driver showed back up with another collectivo and we started back towards Puno. There was some commotion after about five miles and the road was closed with lots of policia and ambulances. Our collectivo found a 4 wheel drive road and tried to get what is basicly a van with too many seats, arround the accident. It then dawned on me that our tour group was probably on that bus…
