South America | Peru | Central Peru | Lima – accomadations
So I am back at the Lima International Airport AT 1:00 a.m. without a connecting flight to Arequipa till 8:00 a.m. Lovely. For those who have not visited Peru, The Lima Airport is NOT the the most attractive (or safe) place I have been. Trying to escape and do something such as nightlife could/would be dangerous.
I HAVE OFTEN BEEN ACCUSED OF BEING MAD BUT NOT SUICIDAL. Trying to run the gauntlet of locals assembeled at the exits after 24 hours of planes/trains and automobiles was a bit beyond me. Plus I still have a connecting flight and dont want to miss it. Anyway, after being mangled through customs I rechecked my bags at the domestic counter ( I had to wake someone up ) and started looking for a palce to crash but found No chairs, couches or even rugs etc. At the far end of the Airport I turned into a somewhat darkened corner and came across at least 150 bodies lying on the concrete floor admist bags, backpacks, luggage etc…. Lima’s lounge for missed and delayed flights….Oh Yea…could I….. yes, I did, untill the airport staff decided this would be the perfect place to try their new electric and incredibly noisy floor polishers. One by one about half the bleary eyed travelers sat up and glared, the other half ( my self included) just delt with it. I love travel.
