It has taken me a few days to recover. I do things like wake up at two AM and I just can’t get back to sleep. Nothing sounds as good to me as some fish and rice. Coming back from the airport we stopped at Applebees and I had an appetizer sampler with fried cheese sticks, nachos, baby back ribs and quesadillas. I had some nachos and two fried cheese sticks and I knew I was going to be sick. I will admit, I finished the mudslide (real dairy ice cream, chocolate sauce, kaluha and Bailey’s, none of which I had in Japan!). Wednesday I had a hamburger. As good as the beef and bread tasted, it about made me ill again. I am constantly sniffling in the air conditioner. The bareness of the land here without the mountains and trees and bamboo forests still looks naked to my eyes. It will take me a while to re-adjust, but it will come. In time, Japan will be but a beautiful dream, while still a dream I am very happy to have lived.
