I’ve been talking about it for months, I know I know, about going back east to visit. But lack of cash flow really does a number on priorities. All of a sudden the most important things in life switch from planning the round-the-world adventure of a lifetime to electric bills and paying rent on time. What kind of cruel joke is that?
These past few days I’d just about had it. I love the Valley, I do. I like its neighborhood sensabilities. Green lawns and Sunday Farmers Markets where fresh flowers and homemade falafel are good to go. I like the feeling of being away from the city although it is only just ‘over the hill.’ But, and all of you who live here know what I am talking about, it’s just too damn hot.
Yesterday: over 100 degrees F! I almost fell over from heatstroke when I got caught on my morning run right when the sun reached its evil full strength. My friend from Ireland complains about the constant rain. Wanna trade?
So it’s time for some genuine R&R. A holiday, if you will. I always loved how other cultures call them ‘holidays’, adding a bit of class to what would otherwise be a weekend trip. I leave Saturday, 13 July and return Thursday, 18 July. And damnit! I am treating this like a holiday:
I WILL turn off the cell phone!
I WILL tune out Hollywood!
I WILL rediscover my New England accent and talk faster than I ever have before!
I WILL drink many many pints of Samuel Adams Summer Ale!
Who’s with me!
