North America | United States of America (USA) | California – Taking Off
It is the night before. Not Christmas, but I can sense that same butterfly rumbling in my belly that likes eggnog and stocking stuffers. Perhaps travel is Christmas Joy for adults.
The sun is settling into the Folsom hills right now, with the orange clouds filling in the sky. As I do with the onset of every trip, I feel pre-nostaligic for the view from my window, no matter how unimpressive. I feel myself recording all the details into a bank of senses I can withdraw from later. Just the very thought of travel awakens my life to everything around me, so alert and conscious I become.
My flight is confirmed, my clothes laid out, errands run, camera fully-loaded with film. There is nothing left to do but be there. But I feel I must linger here a moment longer, linger here in the moment before action and the lull before all the newness of delight that awaits me in the coming days…
‘The spirit teaches the body to travel…’
