North America | United States of America (USA) | California | San Francisco – Picking up my heart in San Francisco
Last year, about this time in fact, my roommate and I crammed into my car on a Friday night after work (9:30pm) and hit the road up to San Francisco to see the original 35mm print of our favorite Italian film, Federico Fellini’s ‘Juliet of the Spirits’, which was playing one day only at the Castro Theater the Saturday following. Now, the drive from Los Angeles usually takes me about 6 hours. We did it in 5, rolled up to the hostel at 2:30 and were safely in bed, ready for our day of bliss in the city I love to go to and loathe to leave. After that 24 hour visit – the drive back took the full 6 hours, rolling in at sunrise on Sunday – I was never quite the same. LA lost any lustre it held for me. I really did leave my heart in San Francisco.
I am presently revisiting my lost love, finally, a year later. And this time I am not leaving anything out.
