Europe | Turkey – Kurdistan

Greetings from Kurdistan,
I am in the Turkish/Iraqi border town of Qamishle in Syrian, at the end of the world. Yesterday the turkish border guards aimed their rifles at us form a distance when we ventured too near the border which is the Tigris river.Today I spent the day communing with various Kurdish Iraqi government to get permission to gte into Iraq only to find that the Syrian authority must also give me permission. But I am willing to do a lot to get in and think it may work, the only problem is thAT MY Irani friend is not allowed,, so perhaps I shall voyage to Baghad and elsewhere in Iraq solo, I suppose travelling makes one crazy, which is what I am. The hospitality is wonderful here and the first house one walks by, one is invited for tea and then a meal, and then they invite you to live with them almost. Unfortunately dates are not in season, but I am quite engorged by watermelon thrice daily with all meals , eaten by everyone here in order to quench the thirst caused by 45 degree heat. Yesterday I was on the Euphrates river, and today on the Tigris, the land between the two rivers, mesopotamia, and it is beautiful, the houses are call rectangular mud huts, amid farmland, ancient tells, cows, and the canals and rivers, with colorful country women in al their finery and then men in their robes and headresses. THe colors are a delight to the eye, with deep red soils, rich yellow wheat and straw fields, green fields of tomatoes, and azure blue of the water sources. I now wear the ubiquitous gallabaya all days (or one piece robe/dress thing worn by women and men)the most comfy thing in the world, along with my white veil to fend the heat, I hardly speak english so that I hardly remember by name, where I am from or how to write in english…
In Canada, ones mind is at ease, as one is free to think, say and do as one pleases. Here, one must shut their mouth, I don’t know who is a spy or informer or what, I am
I must leave now to be with the Kurdish democrats now…
bikhetri ta (goodbye in kurdish),
