Europe | Portugal – Portugal – Lisbon
When we arrived in Lisbon, I couldnt help but be reminded of San Francisco. It is a beautiful city set on a peninsula with a huge red bridge providing access. The city is stunning with the obligatory moorish castle on top and numerous cathedrals throughout. Portugal was once the world super power and this can be seen in the palaces and other buildings. It is also home to some excellent port!
The sunsets in this town are amazing, we perched at the side of the moorish castle drinking port as the sun set over the city. The next morning, we went up to the moorish castle and saw the views of the city in the morning light.
We walked by the Port Institute which, unfortunately, was closed on Sundays. However, we were lucky enough to have come by at the exact moment a cruise ship tour was being led in for a private tasting. We snuck in with the 60 something crowd and enjoyed sampling the port with some folks from the states, all the while trying to stay under the radar of the gay and stoutly tour guide.
