Europe | Germany | South | Heidelberg – My program, My house, My Life

This is a picture of my house! You can see my window hiding behind the tree in the upper left corner:)

So, I am here, along with about 18 other college students, with the American Junior Year (AJY)… Hence the name, all of us (besides two) are juniors, and only eight of us are brave enough to abandon the United States for the full year. But, that just means next semester we get a shipment of more people, which is also cool… This month we are taking a course for the whole month, every morning we have to meet at the Center way too early (wouldn’t be sooo early if we didn’t go out, I’ll admit) and we study german grammar, culture, and history. Now, let me tell ya, I can tell I am going to learn a lot, which is the reason why I came. I am just going to be learning too early in the dang morning…

Not only do we have our classes in the Center, but we also chill there… It has a kitchen, small TV room, a classroom, and then a computer room so we can all attempt to stay connected with whoever still cares about us back home. It’s a home away from home, where we can meet up and relax, and in a sense, get away from Heidelberg…

My house (pictured above) is going to make this year interesting, I can sense that… It is a normal house, with a big kitchen and living room, and then there are about 30 bedrooms or so. On each side of the floors (three floors) there is a fridge and bathroom. I am lucky, I get to share it with three dudes and one girl:( It is a male fraternity house, they say, but I have yet to see anything that has to do with the fraternity. So, more to come once I investigate the situation:) School doesn’t technically start for another month, so there are a lot of empty rooms. But the germans I have met are ver intimidating, and I tend to lose my courage to communicate when I am in their intense presence. And that is not like me, but for some reason, the cat just keeps getting my tongue…

So that is all for now, since I don’t really know much else, just what I have observed… But, in the general scheme of things, I can tell this year has a lot of adventures ahead of it… And if not, well, at least I have a decent Center and a house full of germans:)
