Australasia | Australia | New South Wales | Sydney – An Aussie Christmas and a Happy New Year
Well, since our last diary entry, things got pretty busy on the work front. Dave had no luck with the IT contract work, but like me he got lots of work through the agency we both registered with, selling fragrances in a department store. We both worked nearly every day in December, so were glad to have the day off on Christmas Day!
Christmas Day was the hottest we have had in Sydney so far: about 38 degrees! We spent the day on the beach with a couple of friends we met at the hostel. Went to Tamarama beach – the next one along from Bondi – and took a picnic. Glad we chose that beach as we dropped in at Bondi on the way home for photo opportunities and it was absolutely packed. But we can say we went to Bondi beach on Christmas day!
After Christmas, we went to stay with Howard and Laura (My Dad’s cousin and family) at their holiday home in Batemans Bay, which is a lovely resort about 4 hours drive south of Sydney. Visited a couple of lovely beaches, and had a barbeque and meal out. It was great to get away from the city for a bit.
Then it was back to Sydney for New Year’s Eve, which was fantastic. We had booked a hotel in the city for two nights (paid for by Xmas money from both sets of parents – great present!). Went out to look for a good vantage point early in the afternoon, and managed to get a prime spot beside the opera house with the best view of the bridge. The fireworks were fabulous, and the lighting effects on the bridge made with rainbow coloured beams of light was spectacular. Tried to take photos, don’t know how they’ll come out, but bought newspapers to keep on New Year’s Day.
So now we are waiting to see if the agency has any more work for us for a few more weeks, and if not we are planning to go to Canberra for a few days, then off to Melbourne. Will write again soon and let you know what happens…
