Asia | South East Asia | Vietnam | Central Provinces | Hoi An – On the road again …
Well, I finally did it… I finally left Nha Trang!!!! Ohmegosh, it was really hard but I buckled down and got that backpack packed. It actually took 3 days to leave, 3 very drunken farewell parties, before I was brave enough and sober enough to move on. It became a bit of a joke after a while, and everyone stopped believing that I was actually going… I decided that 10 weeks was more than enough time to be stuck in one place. I was very sad to leave, having made so many friends. Also, I was a bit reluctant of getting back into tourist/backpacker mode again.
This will probably only make any sense to you divers out there… unfortunately I didn’t manage to get my Dive Master – I would have had to stick around until August to get that. But I did manage to get my Advanced Open Water and log 45 dives. Pretty good for someone who up until 10 weeks ago had never dived before. I now feel that I can at least dive and look like I know what I’m doing…?
I arrived in Hoi An 2 nights ago, after a very pleasant 11 hour bus journey. And no I’m not being sarcastic! Hoi An – what a lovely place, completely different to Nha Trang, I feel like I’ve taken a step back in time. Everything is really old, small narrow streets, and loads of fantastic shops and restaurants. They make the most amazing clothes and shoes here, really cheap and all tailored to fit. So, I’ve been shopping!!!! Did I say I was on a budget? The only thing that has stopped me from buying even more, is that I have to carry everything, at least until Hanoi – post is very expensive from here. There are various sights to see, but I’ve given them a miss – most of them you can see from the road – and after Angkor Wat, I’ve had enough of temples.
