Asia | South East Asia | Lao People’s Democratic Republic (Laos) | Far North | Pakbeng – Floating down the Mekong river…

It’s very easy and kind of comfy being on the slow boat from the Thai border to Luang Prabang in Laos.
Bit cramped, but as long as 1/2 of the crowd gets up on the roof, we’re perfectly allright down here…
At least a lot better than on one of the tiny speed boats, where there’s hardly any room to move your legs, so let alone move around, you cannot talk because of the motor noise and will be lucky to get off the boat with nothing more serious than being deaf…

Floating down the Mekong is a peacefull undertaking, not to be taken too quick! You get to know some new people, watch the amazing hills around and marvel at the speed of the current pulling us along.

A small one street village called Pakbeng is our overnight stop. The toilet is across the road and, god, is it dark in Pakbeng in the middle of the night!

We arrive into the colonial little town of Luang Prabang on the afternoon of the second day, ready to embark (or rather disembark) on a new Laos adventure…
