Asia | South East Asia | Burma (Myanmar) – In Dein – the hidden treasure
In Dein is an absolutely magnificent and fascinating place, with an amazing lot of old ruins of pagodas, some as much as a 1000 years old.
The old stones and bricks, the cracks and all the bushes that are around and half cover them, give the place a mystic and eerie feeling – having to search your way from one ruin to another through dense undergrowth definitely adds to the adventure feel… allthough I must say it is good that I saw this long, dark grey snake only after we visited!
The site has not been opened to visitors since long and it was wonderfully quiet, with almost no other people around.
The beautiful Buddha head resting at the foot of one of the ruins that we saw on a pictyre was impossible to find, the closest is the tiny Buddha head I found lying in the grass…
The only way to get there is to take a boat from Inle Lake, and follow some small streams and waters to this wonderful place, hidden in the forest….
