Asia | Nepal | Kathmandu Valley | Kathmandu – Kathmandu
Here i am in Kathmandu since yesterday and i’ve already started my training. I had my first 3-hour language class this morning and all i remember is the word jutta (hey sister, your name means ‘shoe’ in Nepali :o)
I also had my first nepali meal eaten with the right hand, it was tasty but very spicy.
Tomorrow I’m going to a little village near Kathmandu for some more language training and some cultural teaching, I’ll be staying in a Nepali host family over there till Wednesday. Unfortunately there is a nationwide bandha (strike) sceduled for the Thursday, it can last up to 4 days so I’ll be stuck in Kathmandu for a while which I’m pretty unhappy about. It sounds like my volunteer placement could be in Langtang which sounds very interesting but also very tough. I might just be the only westerner in a village of 300 people with no phone or internet access….
I’ve already visited some temples here in Kathmandu and a school and nursery where the little 3year olds were performing a dance for us. The other volunteers seem nice, I’m the oldest but not the only German, there are two more fellow Germans out here trying to safe nepal :o)
