Asia | Nepal | Kathmandu Valley | Kathmandu – Famous last words
Well, so much for Kathmandu. I had all these great plans of seeing the sights, but 10 minutes after arriving in a city filled with steak and bookshops I proceeded to spend the next 5 days doing nothing but eating and reading, always planning on doing something ‘the next day’ then it all caught up with me. 4am and kneeling on the bathroom floor with my head stuck down the toilet I remebered that the last time I was asked if I’d been sick on this trip, and I had smugly replied ‘No’, I’d forgotten to touch wood, and now look at me. Not that I’m superstitious or anything. The thing about travelling is that it makes you completely paranoid. Now if I had this at home I would just spend the day in bed but here when I could finally bring myself to stand upright I was off to the doctor like a shot paying an obsene amount of money for him to tell me what I already knew, that I had food poisoning. But you never know, it could have been life threatening.
So buoyed up with every drug known to man and restricted to a liquid diet, I spent the rest of the day in bed being waited on by the waiters from the restaurant adjoining my hotel feeding me tomato soup, and in between groaning in agony, bemoaning the loss of steak dinners.
Still haven’t managed to see the sights, but am at least upright today, so will head out tomorrow on a quick recon mission, and possibly reschedule my flight to give me more time here
