Asia | Mongolia | Ulaan Baatar – And so to mongolia
The train journey to Mongolia (from Beijing) was relaxing and picturesque. We lay on our bunks for hours just staring out of the window and watching the landscape change along the way. I had been in two minds about the four-day train ride to Moscow after all the overland travel weve done, but now I think its going to be a really relaxing week.
Ulaan Baatar is a strange place a mid-sized sprawling city plonked in the middle of nowhere. Its a pleasant city though, despite the ugly Soviet buildings that dominate the capital. The people are friendly, the streets are clean and evidence of regeneration is in progress. After checking into the cheapest place we could find, we sampled the Mongolian mutton and a few Chinggis Khan beers to round of a good start to a new country.
