Asia | Korea, Republic of – It’s over
Like pretty much everything in life, my stay in Korea had to come to an end. I hadnt done as much sight seeing as I had originally planned, but there was only so much I could take in one summer. Im sure Korea has more to offer, but I was kindof all sight-seed out. I was there when the madmen flew into the World Trade Centre and all the people died, but it didnt really seem to make much difference to your average Korean.
My flight to Dublin left Incheon airport at about midday which meant I had to get the 7AM bus from Taejon, which meant there wasnt really much point in going to sleep after the few drinks where the locals celebrated my departure. After spending all my spare won I was hit by a surprise 15,000 ($12) leaving the country tax, which nobody had warned me about. Luckily I had some dollars on me or it could have got hairy. But it didnt.
It took about eleven hours to get to Paris, where there was a fun security scare and the terminal was evacuated. Damn you Osama Bin Laden. By the time I got to Dublin it was 11PM which including the time difference meant Id been traveling for in or around 26 hours, so I was a bit tired. But it was good to be home. There was football on the telly.
I had a pretty deadly time this summer. Swam the Adriatic, walked Red Square, drank blood in Draculas house in Transylvania, learned how to use chopsticks properly in Korea, talked to survivors of the Chernobyl disaster and the Bosnian war, met some decent people, and had some great times. I would have to say it was time well spent. You should probably do something similar yourself sometime. Well I think so.
