Asia | India | Tamil Nadu | Pondicherry – moving faster now
i have moved a bit faster since leaving puri, i spent the day in Bubeneswar which wasn’t very exciting before catching the overnight train to chennai. first night in chennai i was woken at midnight by a loud knocking at my door. there was a policeman who looked me up and down for a few seconds then left !!,
i met a Sri Lanken refugee who had been forced out of his country 20 years ago because a tamil tigers landmine blew up a police car outside his village, he now lives in a camp outside madurai and recieves 5 kilos of rice a month for himself and his family to live on. he went to chennai for a job interview and has been stuck there for 3 weeks as he didn’t have the 180 rupees for the train jouney home. (he does now)
i have met up with a dutch couple and we travelled from chennai to mallapuram which is a small town with lots of sculpturers working away, and a few artists, and i could’t resist an oil painting of a saddhu.
it was nice and relaxing after the city, but a few days was more than enough.
after a few days there we have now arrived in pondicherry where i have had my first real filter coffee since arriving, pure bliss…
