Asia | India – sun, sand & surf
i have now moved a bit and seen several places, i left tiruvannamalai and caught a bus to villupuram and transfered to a train to Madurai, there i met up with my new dutch friends and found the temple to be very active, lots going on and very friendly. After a couple of days we travelled down to Kanniyakumari which is the southernmost tip of india. we got up at 5.30 to see the sunrise (along with a few thousand others) but it was too hazy though still quite magical. we then caught a bus to Trivandrum where we sampled the delights of Kerelan cooking at at food fair, the food was delicious and spicy, the following day we visited a colourful market before cathing 3 buses to get to Varkala. it is a bit touristy here but the beach is superb and the clifftop resturants give excellent views. one of the places shows films each night and we saw lord of the rings 2 last night. The hotel (underground) is very friendly and we had our own barbeque after visiting the local market and buying a fresh tuna for 150 rupees, this fed about 6 of us. it is very laid back and relaxing here and i could easily spend weeks doing nothing, but am very keen to hire a houseboat to do a backwaters cruise.
