Asia | India | Karnataka – mysore & bangalore
caught the bus from guruvayur to calicut and overnighted there, then travelled by bus again to mysore. i had a bit of difficulty finding a room as 4,000 delegates were in town for a conference. but finally found something suitable. met some nice people and saw some cottage industries, one of which i was told was where the body shop get their oils from. treated myself to some waterlilly oil (repells mosquito’s) and sandlewood oil (aching joints). also bought a wood inlay panel from another cottage ind.
went up the 1000+ steps to the temple on chumali hill which was a bad idea, the temple was nothing spectacular but the view was great. went around the palace which was very oppulent and worthy of its description of coming out of the arabian nights stories.
on the sunday evening it is lit up with 50,000 – 100,000 lightbulbs and a ‘battle of the bands’ was going on with 3 bands playing music (including ‘congratulations !!!)
caught the train yesterday to bangalore and now just want to get out again, decided not to visit sai baba’s ashram after reading bad things about him, so have just booked a ticket to go to hampi.
