Asia | India | Bihar | Bodhgaya – bodhgaya
after waiting 5 hours for the train to arrive in varanasi, amusing myself with a couple of charming french girls, i arrived in gaya at 3 am. i thought it best to wait for daylight before going on to bodhgaya, so found a cafe that was open and had a couple of coffee’s while chatting to an indian & a chinese canadian. at 6 i caught a tempo to bodhgaya and found a nice clean cheap hotel with hot running water. at 80 rupees a night it’s the best i have come across so far (called rainbow hotel, by the mynamar monestry).
after a few hours sleep i went and explored the main temple. this is the place where lord buddha found enlightenment and is quite spectacular. lots of monestries are here and all of them are very palatial. everything is being cleaned up here due to a visit next week of some of the leaders of various temples from all over the world are coming here.
the japanese temple has a 62 feet high statue next to it, the thai temple has an amazing roof, and all the temples are spotless. this is another peaceful place.
