Asia | China | Shaanxi and Henan Provinces | Luoyang – On a train

After lunch in the aforementioned western restaurant, we were ready to brave another Chinese train, but this time we’d managed to get hard sleeper tickets. What a difference a carriage makes! So much for a classless society! Overcrowding in the hard sleeper carriages is not allowed and nor is spitting. The toilets flush, people use bags to dispose of their rubbish – I would even go so far as to say that I enjoyed the journey and it rekindled our faith in taking the Trans-Mongolian Express. We were the star attraction of the train, used as guinea pigs for those wishing to test their English and I never thought I’d see my diary again as it was passed around the train for people to marvel at the Roman alphabet. Thank God my writing is illegible!
